Week 1
God created the world in 6 days. God rested on the
7th day.
God created Adam (first man) from earth.
God created Eve (first woman) from Adam’s rib.
Adam and Eve lived in Garden of Eden
Eve and Adam were tempted by the serpent to eat the
fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Adam and Eve were punished for eating the fruit.
Week 2
God called Abraham to believe in him
God gave Abraham three blessings – 1) of
descendents, 2) land, and 3) that he would be a blessing to others
Abraham was 99 when Isaac was born.
Abraham’s wife was Sarah
Isaac means laughter.
Isaac’s wife was Rebekah.
Week 3
Jacob means he who cheats in Hebrew
Esau means red hairy one
Jacob stole his brother’s birthright
Jacob cheated his brother, Esau, out of the
blessing from their father Isaac.
Jacob was Rebekah’s favorite. Esau was Isaac’s
favorite.
Jacob went to live with his uncle Laban.
Jacob cheated his uncle out of all his sheep and
goats.
Jacob married Leah and Rachel.
Jacob had 12 sons
Week 4
Joseph was his father’s favorite child
Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery
Joseph ended up in Egypt
Joseph was able to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams
Joseph was second in command over Egypt
Joseph’s brothers had to come top Egypt to get
food. Joseph helped them
Joseph said his troubles was God’s way of helping
his family.
Weeks 5& 6
Moses means drawn out – he was “rescued” by
Pharaoh’s daughter in the Nile.
Moses lead the Hebrew people out of Egypt.
There were 10 plagues in Egypt, the last one was
the angel of death “passing over” the land of Egypt.
The custom of Passover started with Moses and the
exodus.
The exodus lasted for 40 years.
The people ate manna and quail.
They received the 10 Commandments at Mt Sinai.
Week 7
Samuel anointed Saul and David as kings over
Israel.
When David was a young man he killed Goliath.
Saul was king before David
David became king. He was known for his battle
exploits.
David did a great wrong by having an affair with
Bathsheba and then had her husband, Uriah, killed. David did this to
cover up the fact that Bathsheba was pregnant with David’s child.
Week 8
Solomon was the son of David and Bathsheba.
Solomon was known for his wisdom.
Solomon built the temple in Jerusalem.
Solomon was very rich. He had many wives (700) and
300 mistresses as well.
Week 9
There are two types of prophets – major and
minor.
Isaiah was a major prophet.
Isaiah talked about a future servant who would be
king and very kind. (this is Jesus).
There are 12 minor prophets.
Jonah was called by God to go to Ninevah but he ran
in opposite direction.
He was on a ship that was battling winds and waves
and the sailors threw him overboard. He was swallowed by a great fish.
He went to Ninevah but was half-hearted in his
message.
He was angry that God did not destroy Ninevah. God
had mercy on Ninevah because the people repented.
Week 10
There are 150 psalms in the Bible.
The two major types of psalms are lament (sad) and
praise (happy).
Psalm 23 is a favorite among people.
Proverbs are wise sayings.
Proverbs help to instruct people on how to live.
